Race Against Chime

Parliament Education

Goals

2009 saw the 150th anniversary of London’s world famous Clock Tower, Great Clock and Great Bell. Or Big Ben to you and me.

In 1859, the clock and tower was finally completed. The clock started ticking on 31 May, and the Great Bell’s strikes were heard for the first time on 11 July.

In 2009, Parliament were looking for someone to help them create a compelling and fun game to help celebrate the occasion, so they gave us a ring.

Solution

The clock is a world famous icon and has been used (and abused) in countless film and TV encounters. We wanted to ensure we provided a positive message for the clock, and what better way to do it than a face cleaning game?

We had seen images of brave workmen abseiling down the faces of the clock with buckets and sponges and used this as a starting point to create gameplay within the game.

Players must clean one of the Great Clock’s faces against the clock using the bucket and sponge provided. Bonus elements like super sponges and bumper buckets can dramatically speed up cleaning times, but watch out for the birds!

In between each game level, interesting and fun facts about the clock are shown for players to read and enjoy.

Results

The game has been a real hit on the Parliament UK website and at time of writing has proved to be their biggest game to date.
